Materials & Care

I source my materials carefully. Sterling silver and 14k gold filled from reputable US suppliers. 24k gold for keum-boo fused directly onto select Metalworks pieces. Every material is chosen for how it holds up over time, not just how it looks new.

Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver, alloyed with copper for strength. All Porpe Artifacts pieces are made from .925 sterling silver — the standard for quality silversmithing.

I work with recycled sterling silver where possible, refined from existing precious metals.

Caring for Your Sterling Silver Jewelry

  • Store pieces separately in the provided pouch to prevent scratches

  • Put jewelry on last — after makeup, perfume, and hairspray

  • Remove before swimming, especially in chlorinated water

  • Clean with a soft polishing cloth to restore shine

  • Tarnish is normal and easily removed — it doesn't indicate damage

Oxidized Silver

Some Metalworks pieces are intentionally oxidized — the dark surface is part of the design, not a flaw. The finish is sealed with Renaissance® wax paste to preserve it.

  • Do not rub oxidized surfaces with a polishing cloth — this will remove the patina

  • Store oxidized pieces separately from other jewelry

  • If the finish lightens over time, that's normal wear — contact me if you'd like it refreshed

Gold filled is a substantial layer of 14k gold mechanically bonded to a brass base. It's durable, long-wearing, and a practical choice for those with metal sensitivities.

It is not the same as gold plating — the gold layer is significantly thicker and won't flake or wear through with normal use.

I source gold filled material from US suppliers.

Caring for Gold Filled

  • Store individually in the provided pouch

  • Put on last — after makeup, perfume, and hairspray

  • Avoid chlorine, harsh chemicals, and excessive rubbing

  • Wipe with a soft cloth to maintain shine

24K Gold — keum-boo

Select Metalworks pieces feature 24k gold applied through keum-boo, a traditional Korean technique that fuses pure gold directly onto sterling silver using heat and pressure. No adhesive. No plating.

The gold becomes part of the metal surface and won't flake or wear away.
